i have spent the last four weeks exploring hong kong, beijing, kyoto, and tokyo for an undergraduate study abroad program called Design in Asia. here i have studied architecture, visual communications, and most of all photography.
i have been teaching myself with the canon film camera since december, but i really learned exponentially more here.
one way to look at this is to picture a bunch of photo nerds blasting through a few major cities of eastern asia.... with our cameras ready.
i only have a few days left, and i have determined that i am on roll number sixteen. yes. sixteen.
the week that i get back i will be editing all of my work and creating a photo and sketching series as per the syllabus requires, but it will make its way onto here.
the underlying concept for the whole series originally was Light, with a sub-concept of form of light for each location. (night light, day light, color, silhouette, et cetera) but working with what i had it translated into :
Hong Kong: light
Beijing: color
Japan: shape
so really more so the focus on three different basic design elements
i am now home, and i have completed the weeding through photos portion of the project, and am just starting the sketches/watercolor paintings.
there are ten photos and six sketches for each location & context
expect to see them within the next few days
